Les Suchots

The 2006 Vosne Romanee Suschots from Liger-Belair is a lovely drinkable wine. In the bouquet red and darker berry fruits with vosne spices and sous-bois. On the palate quite round and openly knit fruit with a quite good minerality and a spicy acidity. It’s forward and enjoyable, but is not the most focused or intense wine in the 2006 Liger-Belair lineup. It’s nevertheless a fine and lovely glass of Vosne Romanee.

Les Suchots is not my favorit wine from Liger-Belair – but the 2011 version is quite charming. In the bouquet a quite delicate collection of red and darker berries, with the oak slightly more present. On the palate good focus, a deep fruit and a fine balance. The 15% whole clusters have shaped the wine, and the delicate fruit aromas of the 2011 vintage also suits the terroir.

The Suchots 1996 from Cathiard is another very disappointing wine from this domaine. In the bouquet very developed with camphor, some oxidation, cherries and cherry stones … hints of truffle. On the palate very developed notes – some maderisation. The fruit is tired and austere – over the hill. Sadly not the first poor Cathiard wine I have had from the mid 90s – all displaying tired and austere fruit. It’s sort of drinkable .. but sadly not enjoyable at all!… Read the full article →

Les Suchots 2007 from Bernstein is slightly closed at the moment. In the bouquet red and darker fruits in a rather sweet coulis style … cherries, raspberries and strawberries. Seems slightly uninvolving and pale in the fruit aromas. On the palate same story, nice fruit, good length but not much expression of the terroir. The oak is quite well integrated in the wine, but still the finish indicates somewhat excessive use of oak. A good wine, but the style seem kind of uninvolving as the fruit lacks some sparkle and personality.… Read the full article →

The 02 Les Suchots from Arnoux is showing mature notes. In the bouquet aromas of mushrooms,, truffle, orange peel, dark cherries and raspberries – quite open and ready to rumble. On the palate it’s however more tight with some unresolved tannins – perhaps slightly to much oak. Very nice ripe fruit, red and dark berries, licorice and a hint of orange notes in the finish. Good length and balance, still needs at least 5 years more to soften the tannins. A good wine … but not very complex, and too oaky for my taste

(Drink from 2017) Very Good – 90p

Domaine de Bellene the new brand of Nicolas Potel. The combination og Les Suchots and 2009 should not be ideal, both lacking the freshness. This is however a good to very good wine, with quite a good balance. On the palate the wine was showing very well, while the bouquet was a little bit disintegrated.
