Domaine Dublère

The Volnay Taillepieds 2010 from Dublere is a magnificent Volnay. The bouquet is slightly closed but still offering pure crystalline red berry fruit with notes of cherries and raspberries. On the palate intense red fruit – airy and very transparent – with a perfect view to the wonderfully mineralic Taillepeids terroir. Has a lovely core of airy fruit on the midpalate and the finish is very long and focused with a truly impressive minerality. This is a gorgeous textbook Volnay.

The Volnay Taillepieds 2009 from Dublere is a very good but still quite typical 09. The bouquet is currently slightly stemmy and floral – 50% whole clusters were used – and showing quite dark fruit for a Dublere wine. On the palate rich and quite dense fruit .. very well structured by the impressive minerality of the Taillepeids terroir. The finish is long and powerful … with a fine acidity for the vintage. A very good effort … but I prefer the lighter more transparent 2008 and the magnificent 2010.… Read the full article →

The Volnay Taillepieds from Dublere is a gorgeous wine – and one of my favorite Volnays. The 2008 edition is a lovely crisp and transparent wine – very mineralic and with a vibrant acidity. The nose offer red fruit – cool cherries, cherry stones and a very extrovert minerality. On the palate quite tight fruit – red and dark cherries – very focused with a impressive acidity and minerality. The finish is powerful and very focused – a great terroir. I love this style – but this is certainly not a wine for fans of 15% Coca Cola pinot – this is the real mineralic deal.… Read the full article →

The Morey-Saint-Denis Les Blanchards 2010 from Domaine Dublere is a lovely wine – but not performing 100% on this occation. In the bouquet red berry fruit – with notes of forest strawberries and raspberries – a disturbing hint of ruhbarb compote – and spiced with a quite playfull minerality. On the palate very juicy and vibrant fruit with fine intensity. It’s nicely focused with a lovely acidity and a good grip from the finely grained tannins. The transparancy is fine with a lovely presentation of the charming quite terroir.… Read the full article →

The Morey-Saint-Denis Les Blanchards 2009 from Domaine Dublere is a lovely effort for the vintage. In 2009 Blair used 50% whole cluster for this wine, to match and structure the very rich fruit in this vintage. The bouquet is offering pure quite delicate fruit – sweet with a candied note – lovely quite cool aromas of cherries and strawberries. On the palate rich and quite lush fruit, well focused by the tannins and a fine acidity for the vintage. It’s a impressive effort for the vintage – very drinkable and quite cool in the fruit.… Read the full article →

The Morey-Saint-Denis Les Blanchards 2008 from Domaine Dublere is a very juicy and transparent wine. In the bouquet crisp red berry fruit with notes of red cherries and raspberries – spiced with a lovely energetic minerality. On the palate very crisp and vibrant fruit with a fine backbone of acidity and minerality. It’s a very transparent and acidity driven wine, with limited amounts of tannins. A very interesting wine with food, as the acidity driven style really open up for some interesting combinations with rich food like seared foie gras.… Read the full article →

The Chassagne Montrachet Les Chaumees 2010 from Domaine Dublere is a delightfully mineralic wine. In the bouquet crystal clear yellow fruit with notes of pear, green apple, melon and a slight hint of acacia – the nose is spiced with a stony minerality and citrus notes. On the palate beautiful pure fruit, a linear focusing acidity with a very fine minerality. It’s very intense, but still refined and filigree – a pure, very focused Chassagne with a fine transparent expression of the terroir.… Read the full article →

The Chassagne Montrachet Les Chaumees 2009 is a lovely wine in it’s own right, but not comparing well with the 2008 and the 2010 editions of this wine. The bouquet offer rich yellow fruit with notes of pear, acacia and pineapple – hints of stony minerality and citrus. On the palate beautiful rich and slightly opulent fruit, focused by a lovely acidity for the vintage. The minerality is adding a vibrant dimansion to this wine, but it’s not quite in the same league as the 2008 or the 2010.… Read the full article →

The Chassagne Montrachet Les Chaumees 2008 from Domaine Dublere is showing beautifully. In the bouquet crystal clear and crisp fruit with notes of apple, melon and acacia flower – spiced with a stony minerality and a citrus twist. On the palate crisp and pure fruit, a wild and vibrant acidity enhanced by a very fine stony minerality. It’s very intense and dramatic – but still quite refined and filigree. Love this very expressive, pure and beautifully mineralic Chassagne 2008. Bravo!

It’s always very interesting and rewarding to compare vintages in Burgundy, as it really reveal the true character of both the wines and the vintages – if it’s done correctly.

The recipe for succes is quite simple – find a producer who makes fine tranparent wines, that reflects both the terroir and the characteristics of the vintage. Take two or more wines from this producer, and compare the vintages of these wines.

The Beaune Les Blanches Fleurs 2007 from Domaine Dublere is just starting to get the first matured notes. This 1er cru terroir is a quite rare bird coming from a relatively unknown terroir neighbouring Beaune Clos du Roi. Blair is making this wine from the upper and sandy part of this triangular vineyard. The bouquet is open and expressive, with quite complex red fruit notes – cherries, sous bois and a slightly earthy minerality. On the palate good body and weight for the vintage, with a surprisingly fresh and crisp acidity.… Read the full article →

The Nuits-Saint-Georges Busselots from Dublere is small step up in concentration from the Morey Blanchards. In the nose slightly darker fruit with notes of red berries and a earthy minerality.
