The main event of Grands Jours de Bourgogne is the tasting at Clos de Vougeot.
The tasting include wines from the appellations Vosne-Romanee, Flagey-Echezeaux and Vougeot – and some of the best producers are present at this tasting.
Especially the village of Vosne-Romanee supports this event .. and almost all producers are attending with some of the top wines – chapeau and thanks.
The impressions from Clos de Vougeot
Most of the wines served were from the 2014 vintage … or rather .. the very delightful 2014 vintage.
A lot of producers talked about early bottling in November – so was a bit surprised to see so many cask samples at this tasting – but still more bottled wines than usaual at Grands Jours de Bourgogne. In my view early bottling is good way to go in 2014 … as this will retain the freshness in the wines.
Most wines showed very well this year, although some were slightly affected by the recent bottling. That being said … a lot of very beautiful wines … love this vintage.
The 2014s are refined, enjoyable, classic and very pure … perhaps not the biggest vintage in decades – but very classic and lovely.
Photo and tasting impressions
A lot of wines were served .. and I only tasted a selection … there were no big surprises in my view .. the usual suspects.
Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair showed the best lineup together with Domaine Georges Noëllat.

One should however not forget Domaine Jean Grivot … very lovely wines, showing beautifully. Quite delicate and very true to the vintage.

Other hightligts were Cecile Tremblay .. lovely lineup .. and Bruno Clavelier with some very very delicate wines – refined and very transparent.
Moving on to Domaine Bizot – they have made some tremendous and energetic 2014s – drinking very well. Amelie Berthaut … the new rising star on the Vosne heaven – her Vosne-Romanee and Vosne Petits Monts were just delightful – offering all the virtues of the vintage.
Most of the big houses have done very well i 2014. Bichot (Domaine du Clos Frantin) showed some very lovely wines … refined and focused … from the lovely Malconsorts to the Clos de Vougeot.
Bouchard Pere et Fils also showed a gorgeous Clos de Vougeot and a lovely Echezeaux. Faiveley showed a quite delicate and refined set – Clos de vougeot and Echezeaux – note to self … really should taste more wines from this estate (had a lovely Vosne village 2013 at lunch – was drinking so well).
Last but not least I was quite impressed by the Joseph Drouhin Clos de Vougeot and Echezeaux – very fine intensity without loosing the refinement of the vintage .. well done.
