A busy week in Burgundy – with plenty of tastings. Three visits Tuesday, five Wednesday (at bit too much), four today and then finally two Friday before I head back to Denmark.
I will write about each visit in details during the next period … but here are some appetizers.
Visit Domaine Alain Burguet
A lovely tasting of the 2015s at Domaine Alain Burguet in Gevrey Chambertin. A good start of this weeks tasings .. classic yet slightly modern Gevreys with a charming appeal.
Domaine Morey-Coffinet
Very fine tasting with Thibault Morey – a first look at the 2016s + a few older wines. Tremendous wires at this estate – very high quality indeed. Will comment on the 2016 impressions when I return to Denmark, all positive so far .. but very early. Domaine Morey-Coffinet is really an estate to follow.
Maison Benjamin Leroux
Great tasting of the 2015s here .. always interesting to hear Benamin evaluate the vintages.
Very impressed with the whites, and the reds are not surprisingly also magnificent. Still have the Echezeaux in my thoughts – a gorgeous wine. Benjamin Leroux is doing very well.
Domaine Michel Gaunaux
And now to something completely different – the fanastic old school estate in Pommard – Domaine Michel Gounaux.
This is truly an experience … and a great one. Very classic wines – old school and traditional – but also 100% clean, clear and transparent. Never tasted wines like this in Burgundy – big wines – but with very silky tannins – and with a gorgeous focusing acidity.
Really looking forward to write about this family esate .. as they are running the estate by old priciples .. regardless of the hyped and stressed Burgundy market …
I’m quite blown away!
Domaine Antoine Jobard
First visit here .. but know these wines very well indeed. The 2015s are magnificently fresh and balanced and some of the best I have tasted so far.
The 2015s offer very fine freshness and balance – terrific minerality … as we know it from this fine estate.
Very impressive.
