The village of Meuilley has a names that’s tricky to spell for me: Meuilley. And again: Meuilley.
It is, however, a lovely place – as are many of the villages on the Hautes-Côtes. Little did I know that Meuilley in the past was a, if not the, metropole of the Hautes-Côtes.
The map below reveals the secrets of Meuilley (Google always finds it).
Rue de la Gare
… one suggestion: Don’t wait for the next departure…
However, until the 1940s there was a train connection from Meuilley to Dijon via Gevrey-Chambertin.
Meuilley to Dijon via Gevrey
Taking the train from Gevrey to Dijon is well known, and is done by many every day. But the locomotive’s route from Meuilley to Gevrey is today unknown to all except the most avowed train enthusiast.
It was apparently a narrow-gauge railway, and appears to have been closed down by the 1940s (see wiki).
A quick view of the line shows stations or stops in Messanges, L’Etang-Vergy, Ternant, Semezanges, Quemigny-Poisot, Chamboeuf, Curley, and finally Gevrey-Chambertin.
See this article about the track from Meuilley to Dijon to take the train back to the 1930s.
The route went from Chamboeuf to a small stop outside Curley through the forest above Gevrey-Chambertin, crossing the Combe de Grisard (photo below of the tunnel at Grisard).
Bon voyage!
