Wine of the Month is a way of celebrating the wine in the glass. Each month I will find a lovely and gratifying wine – not the greatest, not the best … but a interesting and enjoyable wine on the day … or as Clive Coates so eloquently puts it – a wine worthy of being given an accolade.
Wine of the Month – May 2017
I have choosen a 2014 – a vintage I love to bits, and a lovely example from a new rising star – Pierre Duroché. He certainly deserves the attention and accolade.
Domaine Duroche Estournelles St. Jacques 2014
The Estournelles St. Jacques from Pierre Duroché is a gorgeous glass – offering the very best sides of the lovely 2014 vintage. The nose is brimming with red and darker berries – red and dark cherries, boysenberries and blueberries infused with a lovely quite floral minerality. One the palate juicy and forward after some time in the glass … displaying cool fruit and a lovely balance and mineral tension. This is what I look for in a good Burgundy.
