There are many village terroirs in Vosne-Romanee and even quite a few monopoles .. Clos d’Eugenie, Clos Goillotte and Clos du Chateau springs to mind. These are all vineyards located close to or in the village of Vosne.
There is however a unknown monopole located in the mountains in the very outskirts of the Vosne-Romanee appellation … it’s owned by the very talented Bruno Clavelier who makes a lovely single vineyard Vosne village from this climat.
So lets go in the Combe and beyond La Combe Brulee … lets go to La Montagne.
La Montagne – the western border of Vosne-Romanee
Vosne-Romanee La Montagne is located in the valley above Aux Brulee and La Combe Brulee. It’s a very small vineyard with only two plots – cadastere no #6 with an area of 0.2866 ha and cadastre no #5 with an area of 0.0509 ha – in total 0.3375ha of Vosne village – see map below.
The large plot is located alongside the road, and the smaller plot is located slightly higher on the side of the combe – see photos below.

The owner of this terroir is as mentioned Bruno Clavelier, who makes a quite wide range of Vosne village wines – four to be exact – with La Montagne being the rarest of the bunch.
- Vosne-Romanee, La Montagne – 0.3375 ha
- Vosne-Romanee, La Combe Brulée – 0.52 ha
- Vosne-Romanee, Les Hauts-de-Beaux-Monts – 0.3650 ha
- Vosne-Romanee, Les Hautes Maiziéres – 0.48 ha
The vines on La Montagne are according to Bruno Clavelliers website very old … around 85 years.
