Nuits-Saint-Georges – the vineyard articles

The 1er Crus of Nuits-Saint-Georges

Nuits-Saint-Georges is a large and prominent appellation, but there is no Grand Crus in Nuits. There are however three sections with excellent 1er crus to choose from.

Nuits-Saint-Georges, Les Saint-Georges

  • Vineyard Insight: Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges
One of the most controversial vineyards in Burgundy these years is Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges. By some seen as the best vineyard of the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation, and a cadidate for promotion to grand cru .. others see it as a good 1er cru but perhaps not among the very top terroirs in Nuits-Saint-Georges. Photo: Les Saint-Georges seen ...

    Nuits-Saint-Georges, Clos des Grandes Vignes

    • Terroir Insight: Comte Liger-Belair NSG Clos des Grandes Vignes
One of my favorite parts of Burgundy is Premeaux – and since I seem to be the only one to think that Premeaux should have its own appellation – l think its fair to assume that it will continue to be a part of Nuits-Saint-Georges for now. I have covered many of the Premeaux monopoles, but ...

    Nuits-Saint-Georges, Clos des Forets

    • Vineyard Insight: Nuits-Saint-Georges Clos des Forêts
Nuits-Saint-Georges Clos des Forêts or simply Les Forêts is monopole vineyard in the northern part of the Premeaux appellation. There are 5 monopoles in Premeaux and Les Forêts is located just south of Les Didiers and north of Clos des Corvees. Les Forêts is a part of the prominent Domaine l’Arlot – an estate located in ...

      Nuits-Saint-Georges, Clos de la Marechale

      • Clos de la Maréchale – The largest monopole in Burgundy
Clos de la Maréchale is a Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er cru and the largest monopole in Burgundy … surpassing both Clos de Tart and Clos des Lambrays in Morey-Saint-Denis. During many years Clos de la Maréchale was under the radar of many Burgundy collectors, but when Frédéric Mugnier of Domaine J.-F. Mugnier took over the vinification it ...

        Nuits-Saint-Georges, Clos de Corvées

        • Terroir Insight: Prieuré Roch, Clos de Corvées
One of the best wines from the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation is in my view the Clos de Corvées from Domaine Prieuré Roch – a special cuvee made from a monopole within the Aux Corvées vineyard. It’s in many ways a quite unusual wine … conceptualized by a remarkable man – Henri-Frédéric Roch, the owner of Domaine Prieure ...

        Nuits-Saint-Georges, Clos St. Marc

        • Vineyard Insight: Clos St. Marc a small and forgotten monopole
Clos St. Marc ….. is a monopole in Nuits-Saint-Georges, or should I rather say Premeaux. The vineyard is now owned by Domaine Michéle et Patrice Rion … a very fine but also in my view a somewhat overlooked producer. It’s a very interesting terroir – located in the hearth of Premeaux .. so let’s go to ...

        Nuits-Saint-Georges, Clos de l’Arlot

        • Clos de l’Arlot … a monopole with four wines
Just north of the mighty Clos de la Maréchale we find another monopole with a long and interesting history – the Clos de l’Arlot … the vineyard that surrounds the beautiful estate buildings of Domaine de l’Arlot. Photo: Google Earth Clos de l’Arlot is a Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er cru, although it’s located in Premeaux, and it also produces ...

          Nuits-Saint-Georges, Clos des Argilliéres
