I’m quite often asked to recommend restaurants in Copenhagen i.e. restaurants with good food and a fine selection of Burgundian wine.
The Copenhagen restaurant scene is however very extensive and exiting these years with a lot of really good restaurants and many of them also actually have a nice selection of Burgundian wines.
I have however decided to present some of my favorite restaurants here on Winehog, to give visitors the best possible dining experience in Copenhagen … if a good glas of Burgundy is an important part of a great dinner.
First out is restaurant Alberto K, not only one of the very best restaurants in Copenhagen – but also a restaurant that ranks very highly on the global scene – in my view at least.
Alberto K – at the top of Copenhagen
Alberto K is located at the top of the legendary Radison Blu Royal Hotel – formerly SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen.
The hotel was designed by the famous Danish architect Arne Jacobsen in the late 1950s and was inaugurated in 1960. Arne Jacobsen designed the building, the interieur and furniture down to the smallest detail, and in that sense its a very important historic building. Furniture classics like the Swan and the Egg were designed by Arne Jacobsen for this project.
The restaurant is located at the 20th floor with a panorama view to most of Copenhagen and the coast of southern Sweden. The hotel is located just next to the Tivoli garden, and the Copenhagen Main station.
Alberto K – food and service.
Alberto K is named after the first manager of the SAS Royal Hotel, Alberto Kappenberger, and is considered one of the best restaurants in Copenhagen if you ask chefs and sommeliers in Copenhagen.
The head chef is Jeppe Foldager a very talented young chef who won the silver award at the Bocuse d’or in 2013.
In the restaurant we find the young and talented restaurant manager and sommelier Emil Gamrath and his very competent staff. The service is impeccable, friendly and quite informal.
The food is what I would call classical French kitchen with some influences of the new nordic kitchen …. the presentation of the food is as the photos below documents stunningly beautiful. The food is very aromatic and often with some playful contrasting flavors that gives the food nerve and an edge.
The wine list is very fine with a good selection of fine Burgundies, in my view a lot of interesting wines in all price categories … and not dominated by vin de nature as so many restaurants in Copenhagen.
In my view both the food and the service are at a two star Michelin level, and the dinner shown at the pictures below is one of the very best I have ever had in Copenhagen – only surpassed by a legendary dinner at the now closed Restaurant Ensemble back in 2005.
Strangely and embarrassingly the Michelin guide has so far eluded to award stars to this restaurant .. well beyond my comprehention to be honest.
The magnificent dinner on June 7th 2016
