Domaine Michel Gounoux still offer older vintages as one of very few estates in Burgundy. The 2001 Pommard Grands Epenots is one of these wines. It’s now quite mature – it’s a lesser year in Pommard – unfolding beautifully and offering a mature complexity at this stage. The nose is cool and complex – mature red and dark fruits – notes of sous-bois, hints of truffle and orange peel. On the palate cool and maturing fruit – unfolding during the first 30 minutes in the glass – getting more rounded and taking on some more fruit. Not a big Pommard – but ready to sing, with some classic Burgundian food or at the fireplace on a winter evening. It’s offering mature complexity and unfolding beautifully. Really enjoy these old school wines from Michel Gounoux.
(Drink from Now) – Very Good+ – (90 – 91p) – Tasted 28/11/2017.
