In the coming weeks, I will have the pleasure of participating in and reporting from the 2021 harvest in Burgundy. Mostly it will be hands-on, and within range of my camera!
This particular Thursday was different: This report is from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair in Vosne-Romanée.
Day 7
September 23
Thursday – a sunny day
It was a big day for Liger-Belair, harvesting La Romanée and Clos du Chateau, with the mighty La Romanée being first up. I arrived in Vosne-Romanée and found the Liger-Belair team already there – good timing on my behalf!
Here are some impressions from La Romanée.
The grapes were lovely, but the yield is low, mainly due to the April frost. Time will show how low it actually is, but below 10 hectolitres/hectare is not unlikely.
La Romanée vinification
The sorting happened in front of the new cuverie, with Louis-Michel at the end of the sorting table ensuring the highest quality is maintained.
Rusty Cook says
Steen, loving the pictorial, happy days. Here at Providence in Tasmania there are 50mm long shoots on Pinot and Chardonnay …200 days to harvest ;). Looking forward to your next instalment.
