Chartron is becoming a favourite for the Winehog in Puligny, or should I say in Côte de Beaune, as the estate covers a large part of the Beaune whites.
It is always a treat and a pleasure to visit Jean-Michel Chartron – as the wines seem to be improving year after year,

Domaine Jean Chartron is one of the most prominent, historic landowners in Puligny-Montrachet, having owned several of its holdings for more than 100 years.
Domaine Jean Chartron in more depth
Domaine Jean Chartron has a long historical background, having been established in 1859. It has a unique portfolio of vineyards that includes three famous clos: Puligny-Montrachet Clos de la Pucelle, Puligny-Montrachet Clos du Caillerets, and Chevalier-Montrachet Clos des Chevaliers.
The estate, after problems with inheritance taxes in the 1980s and 1990s, has entered a more stable period under the leadership of Jean-Michel Chartron, and this has led to tremendous quality improvements over the past several years.
Domaine Chartron has a lovely portfolio of vineyards, and I have recently done some studies into this treasure.
Tasting the 2024s at Domaine Chartron
The 2024s are very refined at Domaine Chartron … the phenolic ripeness, in most cases, is close to perfect … and this gives you some truly lovely 2024s. 2024 was not an easy year; however, the whites fared better than the reds in terms of yield and quality-wise.
Chartron has, like Roulot and Leflaive, manned up on the pickers, and let’s face it … this does help a lot on the precision of the recent vintages.
It is a cool vintage (if there is such a thing in these global warming years), and this does offer some more delicate and more focused wines than the rich 2023s. We are getting used to these rich wines … thus, 2024 is a welcoming break in the usual hot vintages,
To the tasting notes! You know the drill…
Tasting notes from September 29th 2025
Domaine Jean Chartron Bourgogne Vielles Vignes 2024
The Chartron Bourgogne VV is a lively and generous wine. The phenolic ripeness level is average, and the complexity is not that impressive. It is a cooler year, and this is a wine best used for a light lunch … oysters or langoustines… or a light summer apero.
(Drink from 2025) – Good – (86-87p)
Domaine Jean Chartron Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Blanc 2024
This is riper and richer with a nicer phenolic generosity. More richness and power … oysters moving up to richer but fish and chips. I would in fact go for this cuvée for most lighter dishes … a lovely choice with its nice generosity. Can one call fish and chips a lighter dish? Perhaps not!
(Drink from 2025) – Good+ – (87p) – ![]()
Domaine Jean Chartron Rully Montmorin 2024
The Rully Montmorin is showing very well in 2024. Love the limestone character and the cooler notes in this vintage. Very lively or even slightly frisky for a Rully. It will work well with most fish dishes and salads that don’t require big aromatic complexity.

Domaine Jean Chartron Santenay Blanc 2024
(Drink from 2025) – Good – (87p)
Domaine Jean Chartron Saint-Aubin Les Perriere 2024
Classic Saint-Aubin from the centre of the village. From a rather steep vineyard … has a lovely balance and freshness. Will not bend your mind with complexity … but has a nice core taste.
(Drink from 2025) – Very Good – (88p) – ![]()
