Chablis – Domaine Antoine et Laurent Robin 2023

I rarely taste Chablis. This became an unfortunate habit back when my main mode of transport was my Vespa. Despite my love for my Vespa, servicing Chablis with your scooter is perhaps being overly optimistic, as my home is in Nuits-Saint-Georges.

I have tasted Domaine Antoine et Laurent Robin before and liked the 2019s …. so, why not give the 2023 a try.

Domaine Antoine et Laurent Robin is a 14-ha domaine that was founded in 1990. It was not until 2018 that the son-and-father estate reached full speed and started producing its full portfolio.

From 2018, the estate produces the following wines – a fine and interesting range:

• Chablis Grand Cru Blanchot – Vaudésir – Bougros
• Chablis 1er Cru Vaillon – Montmains – Montée de Tonnerre
• Chablis
• Petit Chablis

The Petit Chablis is the surprise of the range. Phenolics are finely balanced and not overripe. Fresh mineral notes … vivid and a lovely glass for a Saturday lunch. Not super complex … but the freshness and a point phenolics do give it an emotional tick.

This is a tad riper than the Petit Chapelle. This has a nice mineral and floral note. Would have preferred it slightly fresher, as the finish gets slightly on the ripe side … but chilled and with a bit of air … it’s a nice glass.

Domaine Antoine et Laurent Robin Chablis Vaillons 2023

This is rich and intense, and this seems to be the style of this cuvee … The phenolics are too ripe, giving this dense yellow fruit. Look at Petit Chablis or Montée Tonnerre instead.
