The Leoville Poyferre 1999 is a good wine and quite typical for the vintage. In the bouquet quite open with cassis, hints of cedar and pencil lead. On the palate quite approachable with good midpalate concentration It’s well balanced and offer a good classical Bordeaux experience. On the negative side the fruit is somewhat flat and one-dimensional without juicyness of the better vintages. Not fully mature, but will most likely not improve much with further cellaring. It’s a good wine, but if you wan’t excitement and true pleasure try a better vintage like 2000 or 2005.
