Vintage .. 1964 .. unknown territory … first time I taste both the producer and the vineyard. Jaboulet-Vercherre is now included in Domaine Faiveley as is the monopole vineyard Beaune Clos de L’Ecu so a lot of history here … the content of the bottle is however still fresh and vibrant. Beaune Clos de L’Ecu is located quite high on the sloape in the northern part of the Beaune appellation – just above Beaune Les Féves. The bouquet starts out a bit closed with a slight metallic note … but soon it unfolds and continue to blossom with deep fruit, sous-bois, orange peel and coffee all interlinked with a finely tuned earthy minerality. On the palate .. same development … after 10 min in the glass .. rich, deep with a lovely complexity .. quite airy for the appellation .. still juicy with a nice verve. Fine intensity and weight … lacking a bit of focus compared to the big terroirs – but a beautiful mature Burgundy. A real treat … mature Beaune rules!
