The October trip is a shorter stop before the main round of tastings in start November 2017.
I do have some exiting new names on the program here in October alongside some of my favorites I have visited before.
First out – Domaine de la Cras – an estate located just outside Dijon – on the Côte just north of Marsannay.
Marc Soyard is making 100% whole cluster low SO2 reds and some lovely whites at this estate. The terroir is quite unique with a lovely stony minerality – suiting both red and whites.
I’m looking forward to tell about the Domaine de la Cras estate.
Here is another visual impression from Domaine de la Cras.
Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé
And now to something completely different!
– I always enjoy to visit Vogüé to hear wine maker Francois Millet explain the latest vintage – in his own poetic way.
This year was no different – giving me fine inspiration for the Vintage Report I’m currently writing.
Last visit on Day one – Domaine Sylvain Pataille
Marsannay is one of the areas I have neglected and the tasting at Domaine Trapet last year made me realize that I should visit some more producers in Marsannay.
Why not start with the master of Marsannay – or at least one of them – Domaine Sylvain Pataille.
Sylvain is a very interesting and intelligent man – and it was a great treat to both taste his excellent wines and to hear his both nuanced and clear views on wine making. The wines are magnificent – underlining that Marsannay is fine appellation in it’s own right. Three lovely Aligote wines in 2016 – and a delightful lineup of white and reds.
Tasting notes and a full report for the visits will follow over the next weeks.
