The Hospices de Beaune Mazis-Chambertin Cuvée Madeleine Collignon 2013 is one of the top end Cuvées of the Hospices de Beaune. I always have difficulties with these cuvées – but to the wine in the glass – it’s quite oaky currently. The nose offer red and dark berry fruit and a rather dominant quite toasted oak. On the palate good fruit – nice mid-palate weight – again with the oak quite forward. It’s a quite big and robust wine but perhaps lacking a bit of refinement directly compared to the Echezeaux Cuvée Jean-Luc Bissey. Presumably the oak will integrate eventually – but not the most refined 2013 I have tasted to be honest.
