The Ruwer valley is a little overlooked, and that’s quite sad, as the best producers Maximin Grünhaus and Karthäuserhof makes some very fine wines. The Eitelsbacher Karthäuserhofberg Spätlese 2001 #2702 is a very good example of the Ruwer qualities. The bouquet is open, with loads of minerality, grapefruit and cassis. On the palate it’s beginning to show some mature notes, good fruit and a very fine acidity. This is how a Spätlese should be .. not to sweet, with a wonderful freshness and only 8,5% alcohol. Well done.
