The 1962 Cuvée Nicolas Rollin bottled by Ropiteau is still alive and kicking … although somewhat past its peak. This example was light in color, and with a fill level around 6 cm below the cork – so the expectations were not high prior to pulling the cork. Beaune wines does however keep very well and while it’s an old wine now it’s still enjoyable. The nose offer fully mature redberry fruit brought foward by a deep and earthy minerality – hints of caramel and mushrooms. On the palate quite intense midpalate fruit – unfolds beautifuly in the glas. It’s a bit short, but otherwise lovely with a fine acidity and transparency. A quite lovely old Burgundy.
