Wines are made for drinking … not tasting … !. While I taste a lot of wines blind, I still prefer to enjoy the wines with good friends, without to much blind tasting.
The ideal scene is good food, a group of friends and plenty of wine. For this purpose magnum bottles are perfect. So we gathered 8 people, 7 magnums at our favorite bistro in Copenhagen to test this concept.
Happy wine – Magnum
The magnum tasting was held at Gustavs Bistro in Copenhagen. Gustav served a nice menu, providing a good scene for enjoying some good magnums. Check out Gustavs Bistro if you are in Copenhagen.

Notes from the dinner
The Lanson 1979 was unfortunately corked, but all the other wines performed beautifully, check out the links to see a tasting note on the wines. The Neudorf tasting note is found below.
It’s rare to find a good pinot from New Zealand, but this dinner offered a positive experience with a quite mature magnum from down under.
Neudorf, Moutere Pinot Noir 2004 MG
The 2004 Neudorf Pinot Noir was a good decent glas of Pinot. Yes it certainly lacks some complexity compared to the best wines from Burgundy, but was nevertheless drinking well. The bouquet offered fine mature sweet pinot notes, as did the taste. In the ideal Burgundy world one would have loved a little more vibrant fruit, as it’ was slightly on the austere side. Still this was a pleasure.
(Good – tasted 09/11/2011 from Magnum)
It’s always nice to end a tasting or a wine dinner with some fresh Mosel wines – and so we did. The two ausleses were fine, and completed an evening with good friends, great food and plenty of wine. The Lieser was still very undeveloped tight and sweet, while the Loosen Auslese was in a semi mature state, and was drinking well.
