Vosne-Romanee Les Suchots is a large and quite diverse terroir, with some interesting plots producing lovely wines. Sadly there are also some low points, where more dense and rather poorly focused wines are produced.
The Suchots vineyard is very fragmented with 38 plots, covering in total 13.09 ha – with more than 20 owners currently.
Most consider the top part of the vineyard to be the best, but also the plots towards Echezeaux are in my view producing fine examples of Les Suchots.
One of the very best Suchots is in my view made by Sebastien Cathiard of Domaine Cathiard in Vosne-Romanee – so lets take a closer look at the Cathiard plots on Les Suchots.
Vosne-Romanee Les Suchots – the vineyard
Vosne Romanee Les Suchots is a large vineyard located between Echezeaux to the north and Romanee Saint-Vivant and Richebourg to the south – see map below.
The vineyard is divided in two by a road – the eastern part is located below the road just above the cementary and the village terroir Hautes Maizieres, while the top part is located below Les Beaux-Monts.
The top part is located just south of Les Cruots – one of the best climates of Echezeaux, while the southern part is located just south of the Echezeaux climate Clos Saint Denis (CSD) – where DRC has a quite large plot (10% of the DRC Echezeaux originates from Clos Saint Denis).
