Domaine des Comtes Lafon Le Montrachet is one of Burgundys iconic wines, and one of the most prominent wines from the mighty Montrachet vineyard.
It’s a big Montrachet … but where is the plot located, and what is the history of the plots and this celebrated wine.
Montrachet or Le Montrachet
The Montrachet vineyard is devided between Chassagne-Montrachet 3.99 ha called Le Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet 4.01 ha where the section is called Montrachet … in total a little short of 8 ha producing liquid gold.
The Lafon plot is located in the Chassagne section of Montrachet in the very southern end, just north of Blanchot Dessus – see map below. The plot is facing south, as the vineyard is on the sloape down towards Chassagne-Montrachet.
The plot is 0.3182 ha and is located in the bottom of the vineyard below one of the plots of Baron Thenard, and just south of two of the plots owned by Domaine de la Romanee-Conti – see map below.
