New format to the Winehog the “Terroir View” – an article presenting new, exiting and promising wines and the producers and terroirs making these wines.
The first wine is the Vosne-Romanee Les Suchots from the very promising Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet, one of the truly rising stars of Burgundy.
Amélie Berthaut has taken over the vineyards of Domaine Berthaut in Fixin from her fathers side, and 2/3rds of the vineyards from Domaine Gerbet in Vosne-Romanée from her mothers family, and in addition they has some rented vineyards in Gevrey-Chambertin from the Mercier family (Domaine des Chezeaux).
In total a very fine vineyards portfolio and a great basis for creating a tremendous new estate.
Wine and people
Amélie Berthaut began with the 2013 vintage when she took over the Berthaut vineyards, and she is now firmly in control and they have started to optimise the viticulture and the vinification.
Nicolas Faure, the very competent fiancé of Amélie, has taken over as vineyard manager at Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet from the fall of 2017, and I would expect this to raise the quality even further in the years to come.
This is certainly a dream team, and the wines are already showing the talent and potential of these fine people.
One of the exiting newer wines in the portfolio is the Vosne-Romanee Les Suchots, a wine I recently tasted from bottle during my November trip to Burgundy.
So let’s take a closer look at the Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet, Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots .. the plot and the impressions.
