Clos Saint Denis was sort of a overlooked and hidden treasure for me, as Clos de la Roche stole my attention when I began my interest in Morey-Saint-Denis with the 1988 vintage of Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche.
My passion for Domaine Dujac and Clos Saint-Denis really began when I tasted the 1999 vintage from cask back in 2000 .. a truly magnificent lineup in this vintage from the Seysses family.
The Clos de la Roche 1999 took me by storm, with all its depth and power, whereas the Clos Saint Denis was more understated and delicate .. not better perhaps .. but a more intellectual wine that demands your focus to fully appreciate its finer details and complexity.
When I tasted the 2015 Clos Saint-Denis from cask at Domaine Dujac in January 2017 – it was a return to the fine memories of the early tasting of the 1999s – and this time with the Clos Saint-Denis as one of the very stars of the vintage – in my view.
So lets take a closer look at the Clos of Denis of Domaine Dujac.
Clos Saint-Denis the current vineyard
The total area of the vineyard is according to my calculations – 6.62ha. Clos Saint-Denis today consist of plots from 4 climats – Clos Saint-Denis, Calouére, Maison Brûlée and Les Chaffots – all located on the upper northern side of Morey-Saint-Denis – see map below..
Please note that the border between Les Chaffots 1 er cru and Clos Saint-Denis is not 100% accurate – see map below

- Terroir Insight: Domaine Dujac Bonnes Mares (update) One of the top wines of Domaine Dujac is the Bonnes Mares .. although I do have many favourite cuvées from this fine estate.
