On my March trip to Burgundy I had the pleasure to visit Domaine Dublère and taste the 2014 vintage – both reds and whites.
The notes for whites are in a separate article .. so here I focus on the delightful red 2014s.
A little background on Domaine Dublère
A little background – Domaine Dublère was founded in 2003 by the American journalist Blair Pethel. The first vintage was 2004, and the domaine has since then gradually expanded the production and the portfolio of wines.
Domaine Dublère now makes quite a large a selection of both white and red Burgundies – all of very high quality given the individual appellation. All the wines are very pure, intense, quite light-footed and with a precise and transparent expression of the terroir – in other words more Burgundian than many of the local producers.
I have followed Domaine Dublère since the 2007 vintage and always loved the transparent and terroir driven style. These wines should not be overlooked.
Notes from tasting March 23rd 2016
The red 2014s from Domaine Dublere show very well as most wines from this enjoyable vintage. The Dublère reds are transparent, pure, delicate … with a lovely balance between intensity and airyness.
They will no doubt provide gorgeous drinking over the next decade or so … ideal for restaurants as the drinking window of the Dublére wines normally is very good … or one could say they rarely close completely down and they always seem to maintain a good balance.
To the notes …
Domaine Dublere, Savigny Les Planchots du Nord 2014
The Savigny Les Planchots du Nord is a charming effort and a very good entry level Burgundy. In the nose lovely crisp red fruits brought forward by a nice display of minerality – expressive and delicious. On the palate transparent cool red fruit .. very well balanced with a lovely fruity and long finish. Drinking very well … lovely juice – highly recommended entry level Burgundy.
(Drink from 2017) – Good (86p) – Tasted 23/03/2016 from tank.

Domaine Dublere, Savigny Les Talmettes 2014
The Savigny Les Talmettes is a step up and a slightly more serious wine. The nose offer delicate red fruits – raspberries, red currant and boysenberries – more depth and minerality than Les Planchots. On the palate lovely intensity and length – love the juicy and pure red mid-palate fruit – nicely focused with a fine expression of terroir. A lovely Savigny in the making – should not be missed.
(Drink from 2018) – Good++ (87 – 88p) – Tasted 23/03/2016 from tank.

Domaine Dublere, Beaune Blanches Fleur 1er cru 2014
The Beaune Blanches Fleur 1er cru is a quite rare bird coming from a relatively unknown terroir neighboring Beaune Clos du Roi. This wine is produced from the upper and sandy part of this triangular vineyard. I have a soft spot for this wine … with is generous presentation of pinot fruit. In the bouquet pure vibrant red fruits – notes of red cherries, raspberries, boysenberries and hints of pomegranate. On the palate quite velvet and refined fruit – a hint of opulence but finely focused by the delicate acidity. Love the charming fruit with its fine nerve and energy … note to self – drink more Beaune.
(Drink from 2020) – Very Good (89 – 90p) – Tasted 23/03/2016 from tank.

Domaine Dublere, Volnay Les Pitures 2014
The Volnay Les Pitures 2014 from Dublere is a classic Volnay in the making. In the bouquet deep and quite juicy fruit – red berries – variations of cherries – hints of plum and a nice quite crunchy minerality. On the palate quite intense fruit – fine transparency and display of terroir. A quite delicate and juicy Volnay .. refined and delicious.
(Drink from 2022) – Fine (90 – 92p) – Tasted 23/03/2016 from tank.

Domaine Dublere, Volnay Taillipeids 2014
The Volnay Taillipeids is as usual a step up in minerality and concentration. In the bouquet layers of cool vibrant red fruit … with notes of red cherries, red currant and boysenberries … focused and invigorated by the powerful minerality. On the palate a lovely tension between the gorgeous red mid-palate fruit and the vibrant backbone of minerality and the delicate acidity. A delightful Volnay offering all the best sides of this delicate vintage.
(Drink from 2024) – Fine+ (92 – 93p) – Tasted 23/03/2016 from tank.

Domaine Dublere, Morey-Saint-Denis Les Blanchards 2014
The Morey-Saint-Denis Blanchards 1er cru is one of my favorite wines from Domaine Dublere – mainly due to its high drinkability. In the bouquet transparent layers of gorgeous red fruits – infused with a quite deep earthy minerality – classic Morey. On the palate silky and juicy fruit … very good intensity … and delicately focused by the fine 2014 acidity. This wine just taste so good … a wine of hedonistic pleasure .. and yes the Taillepeids is perhaps the better wine ..
(Drink from 2022) – Fine (91 – 92p) – Tasted 23/03/2016 from tank.

Domaine Dublere, Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Bousselots 2014
The Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Bousselots is … as always .. more tightly wound than the Morey Blanchards. The bouquet show slightly darker fruits – with notes of raspberries, variations of red and dark cherries and a lovely focusing earthy minerality. On the palate somewhat more tightly knit with a quite intense fruit – slightly edgy – classic Nuits-Saint-Georges. It’s less rustic than the 2013 .. but will nevertheless requiere some cellaring to unfold ..
(Drink from 2026) – Fine+ (91 – 93p) – Tasted 23/03/2016 from tank.
