Terroir Insight: Maison Louis Jadot, Musigny

The Musigny from Louis Jadot is somehow a bit overlooked, but nevertheless produced on a plot next to one of the most hyped Musigny’s – the rare and very expensive Musigny from Domaine Georges Roumier.

Louis Jadot began to make wine from the current plot of Musigny in 1985 – but even before this Musigny Grand Cru was a part of the huge Jadot portfolio of wines. I still recall tasting a – for the year – tremendous 1977 Musigny from Jadot many years ago (I do wonder if this was 100% 1977 or if some 1976 was added), and even a 1985 tasted some 15 years back was quite memorable. Jadot most certainly have a distinct estate style, but when the wines mature fully they can be most gratifying.

So lets take a closer look at the terroir behind this slightly overlooked Musigny.

The Jadot plot on Les Musigny

The Musigny vineyard include three parts – from north Les Musigny, then Les Petits Musigny (a Vogue monopole) and then lastly a part of La Combe d’Orveau (Jacques Prieur).

The Jadot plot is located in the Les Musigny part of the great Musigny vineyard. According to the cadastre map the plot is 1665 square meters (0.1665 ha) – see the plot marked with a white line on the map below.

Taking a closer look at the plot – no 2 on the map below – we see that the plot – cadastre no 43 – is located between the plots of Georges Roumier (1) and J.F. Mugnier (4) – see map below.
