Last week it became clear that the April frost damage made it almost impossible to produce Montrachet for several owners on the Chassagne side of Montrachet – Le Montrachet.
The April frost had reduced the yields by more than 90%, and therefore reduced size of the individual cuvées considerably. In some cases the size of harvest would mean vinifying considerably less than 50 liters … and even the largest producer of the six, DRC, would struggle to produce a full cask.
The estates Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, Comte Lafon, Domaine Leflaive, Guy Amiot, Lamy Pillot an Domaine Fleurot therefore decided to join forces and grapes and vinify one common Le Montrachet cuvée.
This is a historic decision and this will indeed be a historic wine.
So lets take a closer look at the – Le Montrachet Six.
The six producers – and the plots
The six growers Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, Comte Lafon, Domaine Leflaive, Guy Amiot, Lamy Pillot an Domaine Fleurot together own 1.26 ha of Montrachet.
