According Burgundy Report1 it’s now official that Boris Champy is the new manager at the LVMH owned Domaines des Lambrays – replacing the long-time head of the estate Thierry Brouin.
A change in management is in my mind no surprise, as this has been avaited since the LVMH takeover in 2014, that Thierry Brouin would step down after the initial handing over of the estate to the new owner. Three years has passed since the sale of Domaine des Lambrays.
Boris Champy originates from Champagne, and has a background working in Bordeaux for the Mouix Family, and later for Moueix in California at their prominent Dominous estate.
Since 2008 Boris Champy has worked at Louis Latour in Beaune as Technical Director responsible mainly for the viticulture – hence not the winemaking at Louis Latour.

Nothing against Monsieur Champy, but it strikes me as odd that a non-Burgundy winemaker would be installed at a great Burgundy domaine. It takes time to understand the subtleties of such a complicated region and I would assume the job would be better given to a talented local.
