Rain … finally

The night of August 21-22 brought some long-needed and much-wanted rain to Burgundy.

Looking at the measurements from Thomas Bouley in Volnay, there was around 12 mm of rainfall. Not a tremendous amount, but clearly better than nothing, as it could benefit the phenolic maturity in some places.

Chatting with Vincent Ledy this morning, I learned the same amount of rain was observed in Nuits-Saint-Georges, perhaps with more substantial rainfall in Chambolle-Musigny.

Alexandrine Roy in Gevrey-Chambertin is also happy; they got 16mm to moisten the increasingly dry conditions in the vineyards.

Pierre-Olivier Garcia of Domaine Moron-Garcia was in Tuvilains, and rainfall was also reported in Beaune (photo below from Pierre-Olivier).

Other reports from Meursault indicate 13mm of rain, approximately the same amount as Volnay.

All in all, positive news, although most would have wanted a bit more water – a bit earlier.
