On my recent visit to Burgundy we had the opportunity to visit Domaine Dupont-Tisserandot to taste the 2011 vintage from cask.
It was my first visit to this fine, but quite discretely profiled domaine. It was a great pleasure to visit the Dupont-Tisserandot, as Didier Chevillon is a very friendly and talented winemaker. The wines were even better than expected, and certainly deserve more awareness from the Burgundy drinkers – this is fine red Burgundies.
Notes from tasting October 25th, 2012
All the wines at Domaine Dupont-Tisserandot were very fine for the vintage and the different appelations. These wines are terroir driven, and the wines are very typical for the individual terroir.
Domaine Dupont-Tisserandot, Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2011
The Gevrey Chambertin Vieilles Vignes is showing fine attraktive notes of red and darker berries – notes of forest strawberries and raspberries. On the palate good fruit expression and a earthy minerality – fresh, focused and quite refined for a wine of this level and vintage.
Domaine Dupont-Tisserandot, Gevrey-Chambertin Petite Chapelle 2011
The Petite Chapelle is a full level up from the otherwise good Vieilles Vignes. In the bouquet lovely and delicate pinot fruit – notes of strawberries, raspberries with a hint of pomegranate and red currant. On the palate lovely jellied fruit with refined red berry aromas. Elegant and harmonious with a charming mid-palate richness. A Lovely wine.
Domaine Dupont-Tisserandot, Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 2011
The Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers is a step up in concentration but also a slightly more backward wine than the Petit Chapelle. In the bouquet fine fruit notes with raspberries, cherries and black cherries. On the palate a lovely minerality, very focused with a good fruit concentration on the mid-palate.The finish is quite long and offer a quite powerful minerality.
Domaine Dupont-Tisserandot, Gevrey-Chambertin Laveaux St. Jacques 2011
The Laveaux St. Jacques is a true charmeur. In the bouquet delicate jelly fruit aromas, with raspberries and sweeter notes of strawberries, rose petals and cherries. On the palate more openly knit and forward than the Cazetiers, with a beautiful almost sexy mid-palate juicyness. The fruit is ripe and complex offering a quite juicy pleasure. Quite seductive – recommended.
Domaine Dupont-Tisserandot, Gevrey-Chambertin Charmes-Chambertin 2011
The Charmes-Chambertin is quite a step up in concentration and focus. In the bouquet lovely confiture styled fruit with sweet berry aromas – quite rich and ripe. On the palate open and quite rich, with a fine mid-palate concentration – lovely balanced with a good acidity and minerality from the fine terroir. A typical Charmes Chambertin – a very fine effort.
Domaine Dupont-Tisserandot, Gevrey-Chambertin Mazis Chambertin 2011
The Mazis-Chambertin 2011 from Dupont-Tisserandot is a truly beautiful wine. In the bouquet layers of red and berry fruit – notes of raspberries, forest strawberries rose petal and a earthy hint of wet stones. On the palate layers of very juicy red and dark fruit, very good energy and balance with a vibrant acidity and minerality. A beautiful wine.
Domaine Dupont-Tisserandot, Corton-Rognets 2011
The Corton Rognets is a typical Corton – and very much different from the rest of the Dupont-Tisserandot lineup. In the bouquet deep darker fruit, quite a strong impression of oak and vanilla from the oak. On the palate quite big-bodied and rich with a good fruit concentration and depth on the mid-palate. It’s quite refined and long. A fine Corton.
