Domaine Pavelot in Pernand

Domaine Pavelot is one of the better-known domaines of Pernand-Verglesses, and while I taste the Pavelot wines from time to time, I have never visited the estate.

This year, I decided to pay the Pavelots a visit, to get a better overview of the wines they are making.

Pavelot is an old Domaine – in fact, seventh generation – so, a lot of tradition and history there. The estate is runned and owned by Luc and his sister Lise. The domaine is located on the edge of Pernand-Vergelesses, the vineyard in front of the Corton hill … a staggering view.

Well, to the wines … I tasted a good range of the wines … both red and white!

Domaine Pavelot Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru, En Caradeux 2023

Caradeux is a lovely vineyard – both for red and whites. The white is deep, saline and with a traditional Pernand style. Intense and a lovely wine … love the salinity of the terroir – goes incredibly well with fish and shellfish … did someone say lobster?

A powerhouse … 14,5% alcohol – full-bodied and very generous. It´s quite an elegant wine … given the alcohol … but requires quite a dish … salmon … or turbot with a lobster sauce.

Domaine Pavelot Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2023

The Corton Charlemagne is classic … hint of fennel … deep fruit yet still on the intense but refined side. Very lovely balance … a refined Charlie!

Domaine Pavelot Bourgogne Passe-Tout-Grains 2023

The Passe-Tout-Grains is a very enjoyable wine. 30% Gamay … quite elegant – a true vin de soif … very enjoyable. No wholecluster … yet quite exciting.

Textbook Pernand — lovely juicy fruit – expressive and joyful fruit … not full throttle Pernand … but it has the mineral note.

Domaine Pavelot Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru, En Caradeux 2023

The Caradeux is very elegant and delicate. Forest floor and a very delicate mineral note. This terroir has some lovely qualities … and offers exciting wines from both red and white.
