The vintage 1999 was great in Saar, and the Egon Muller Auslese #24 is a beautiful expression of the vintage. Still youthful with some tropical fruit elements in the bouquet, but starting to focus and getting a slightly more developed tone. Hints of petrolium, pear, citrus and a wonderful minerality in the nose. On the palate very beautifully balanced, ripe tropical fruits, peach and slight hint of dried apricot. Very good acidity to support the sweetness, leaving a sweet but still fresh expression. Still very young, with a very fine future ahead, the 1999’s from Egon are something very special.
(Drink from 2020) Very Fine perhaps outstanding – 94p
