Tasting old Burgundies is a rare treat, as wines from the 1930s, 40s are getting very difficult to find in good condition these days.
Domaine Faiveley did not have a large production of top-end whites before 2008. Faivelay produced the Corton-Charlemagne for quite many years, and since 2008 Faiveley har produced some gorgeous Puligny from the old the Jean-Pierre Monnot estate. Read about this expansion here – Terroir Insight: Domaine Faiveley Batard-Montrachet.
Personally I really enjoy the whites from Faiveley … and I actually prefer the to whites to the reds from Faiveley – although the reds are also good. The whites has more emotional qualities … and especially the Puligny´s are brilliant in my view.
For this the 200 years jubileee Faiveley had focused on the somewhat older wines, hence only the Corton-Charlemagne really qualified amongst the whites. See the full program below.
This is a lovely tasting format highlighting old and sometimes forgotten vintages.

The Whites
Domaine Faiveley, Corton-Charlemagne 2015
The Corton Charlemagne 2015 is rich and almost buttery, showing the generous and velvet side of 2015. Still auite some freshness … it is after all a Corton Charlemagne, with loads of minerality and potent fruit. Not for 30 years storage … but lovely now and the next 10 years.
(Drink from 2030) – Outstanding – (94-95p) – ![]()
Domaine Faiveley, Corton-Charlemagne 2005
The 2005 Corton-Chalemagne is balanced and refined. It is fresh and delicate with a good freshness. Taken at a lovely moment, but will keep at least 10 years – what a lovely and balance wine … white of the tasting on this day.
(Drink from 2030) – Outstanding+ – (95-96p) – ![]()
Domaine Faiveley, Corton-Charlemagne 1995
The Charlie 1995 is quite mature …intense with maturing notes. Has a slight coffee note … acidity quite prominent … intense yet interesting. At its prime in my view, and a typical representative of the 1995 vintage. A bit austere … but with a good weight.
(Drink from Now) – Very Fine – (93p) – ![]()
