Good morning Burgundy … the Vosne day!
Slowly but surely the harvest is winding up in Côte de Nuits. Of the big estates Comte Georges de Vogüe was first out of the blogs and was harvesting the large section of Bonnes Mares this morning – the Vogüe plot is in the very southern end of Bonnes Mares.
Otherwise, Bruno Clair was also on Bonnes Mares in the Morey Saint Denis end of the vineyard.
No activity was seen in Musigny and Amoureuses yet – but a lot of vignerons are seen in the vineyards of Côte de Nuits checking the progress daily it seems. This is a difficult year by all accounts.
In the other appellations NSG, Vosne, and Flagey-Echezeaux had very little activity. In Morey and Gevrey scattered activity from some of the early pickers and some unknown growers … difficult to identify the harvest teams of prestaturs. The working structures are changing a lot these years with the hired teams taking a larger and larger share of the market.
In Gevrey-Chambetin Alexandrine Roy is as usual quite early harvesting what appears to be very fine grapes for the vintage … the Roy team is doing great work year after year. Bravo Alexandrine.
Henri Gouges harvested the Clos des Porrets Saint Georges yesterday … can be both white and red … but regardless a historical and substantial plot in NSG. If you can get the white Clos des Porrets… go for it … but rare it is. It’s in my view the best white in NSG and the very cradle of the Pinot Gouges.
Otherwise, quite some harvesting was performed in the lesser plots below the road where lovely wines are made … with a more moderate price tag.
Finally, we reached the almost regal estates … Mugneret-Gibourg and Domaine Leroy. The lovely people at Mugneret-Gibourg started out with bringing in some Vosne village La Colombière from the plots just below the estate … Vosne-Romanée has started!!
Most remakebly yesterday was however Lalou Bize-Leroy who in person was checking out some of her plots in Le Chambertin. Great to see her fresh and agile .. very impressive indeed … beyond 90 and still active in the harvest.
… the true Burgundy grit!
Harvest wines …
