Good morning Burgundy …
Yesterday, Domaine de la Romanée Conti entered the big scene in Vosne harvesting Grands Echézeaux, not with the usual bandwagon of big tractors but with pickers and more discrete tractors confirming the modest size of the crop. Bertrand de Villaine was attending on the ground in Grands Echézeaux seeing that 2024 indeed is a small vintage in Vosne/Flagey-Echézeaux, with volumes down by more than 70%.
Domaine de la Romanée Conti was already picking earlier this week with small teams in some of the small plots and vineyards … not rolling out the large bandwagon.
Otherwise, Mugneret-Gibourg finished the 2024 harvest yesterday. Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair continued taking some of the 1er cru, like Aux Malconsort and Suchots.
And many smaller estates in Vosne are also picking discretely—Domaine Boigey Freres and Edouard Confuron at Confuron-Gindre, to mention a few.
Marchand-Tawse is picking and has already taken the first part of the small Musigny cuvee (upper plot) and will now complete the wine with the lower plot. Full baie-par-baie of the Musigny …
Not all will be made
With the low yields in vintage 2024, some wines will not be made, as only very small quantities can be produced.
So like in 2021 some cuvées will be blended both in the village level and in the 1er crus level … creating some rare bottles for the rich and lucky collectors.
