The 1947 Clos de Vougeot from Henri de Villamont is a wine from the Dr. Barolet collection. I have had quite a lot of Barolet wines, some outstanding, others more ordinary. This 47 is sadly one of the more ordinary bottles – but with a surprising freshness. The bouquet is showing quite a lot of oxidation, just after the wine is poured. After a little time in the glasss the fruit seems to return to the wine, and the boquet is offering roses, caramel and cherrries. On the palate also some oxidation, but also a quite remarkable acidity for a 1947. The fruit is there and it’s quite refined despite the oxidation. Too old .. but still drinkable.
