Comte Louis-Michel Liger-Belair and his wife Constance will Thursday open La Cuverie in Vosne-Romanée – a new organic wine bar in the heart of the village.
This is a family project, overlooking the lovely Clos du Château vineyard. Here one can taste the best wines that Vosne has to offer. What could be better?
They have created La Cuverie in the old Lamadon estate beside the Clos du Château vineyard and the Château de Vosne-Romanée – home to the Liger-Belair family since 1815.
The new 600-square-metre La Cuverie has individual architecture that invites guests inside. It opens up at the rear to embrace the vineyards below it.
La Cuverie is set to be a lively, multi-purpose place, with a post office, light organic grocery shop, guest house, cafe, and wine bar infusing life into the otherwise fading social activities of Vosne-Romanée. The post office in Vosne was just closed last March, and Constance and Louis-Michel are hoping to revitalise the village and give guests, workers, and Vosne residents a place to enjoy the fruits of the village.
Wines for all palates
La Cuverie boasts a huge selection of wines from Vosne-Romanée, and from organic and biodynamic producers from the rest of Burgundy and most other regions of France.
It’s a wine bar for every taste and palate, and even guests without a fortune to spend can find exciting things to try.
For collectors and geeks, La Cuverie has a deep wine list from some of the top estates in Burgundy. These are of course quite pricey, but La Cuverie’s markups are reasonable, making it more possible for you to taste even your favourite domaine.
Naturally, Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair has a wide range on offer. But many other French estates are well represented on the extensive list. A selection of cheeses and charcuterie as accompaniment will also be offered.
Starting out, the wine list will offer more than 900 different wines for your indulgence, including relatively unknown vignerons such as Cassiopée, Domaine Pierre Guillemot, and even the multitalented Bernard Zito! It’s great to see new and/or relatively unknown producers getting the possibility to have their wines served in this lovely setting.
