Yesterday, November 20, no less than 802 barrels of wine were sold during the 162nd Hospices de Beaune Wine Auction.
With a total sale result of €28,978,500, the record was literally destroyed, as the previous record sale for the Beaune auction dates back to 2018, when the record was – €13.9 million. The large 2022 harvest had a big effect on the quantity available, but also, prices were favourable for the Hospice de Beaune auction given the anticipated quality of the 2022 vintage.
In the auction room, French celebrities Benoit Magimel and Flavie Flament succeeded in whipping up the bidding frenzy, leading to the record bid of €810,000 for the Pièce du Président (Charity Barrel), against the previous record of €800,000 in 2021.
The Pièce du Président was bought by a group of large Beaune merchants in memory of the recently deceased Louis-Fabrice Latour of Maison Louis Latour.
