There are many good restaurants in the Côte d’Or, but some stand out by offering inventive and truly enjoyable food.

I have therefore decided to choose Savigny-lès-Beaune’s Le Soleil as my Restaurant of the Year 2023 for its delightful food, and for the great moments it has given me.

An extremely cosy, friendly restaurant located in the heart of Savigny-lès-Beaune, the food is contemporary and inspired by Asian, Italian, and Moroccan cuisine while maintaining a French spirit. Exciting food, served in appropriate portions. What a treat!

The wine list is extensive, with a focus on the wilder side – organic and further out into the vin natur territory. This is a place at which to explore, although there is some traditional stuff.

Add to this that Le Soleil updates its menu often, and each time the quality seems to improve even further.

The service is great, and the people at Le Soleil are utterly charming and informal. In fact, by some distance, this is the best food on offer in Burgundy currently, all things considered.
