This week I’m tasting 2016s from a range of estates – from Gevrey to Maranges. This is first impressions – and marks the start of my 2016 vintage coverage.
Day one of my June 2017 Burgundy trip included Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux, Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair, Domaine Y. Clerget in Pommard and Domaine Nicolas Faure.
Thibaud Clerget of Domaine Y. Clerget.
The next days included visits at Domaine Duroché, Domaine Jean-Marc Millot, Maison Harbour Domaine des Croix, Domaine Chevrot in Maranges, Domaine Pascal Bouley, Domaine Julien, Domaine Heresztyn-Mazzini, Domaine Marc Roy, Domaine Rougeot in Meursault and Domaine Bertrand et Axelle Machard de Gramont.
All the estates seemed very happy with the 2016s at this stage – they are lighter and more classic than the 2015s – with a cooler and more vibrant fruit and acidity.

It will be quite thrilling to read notes on the premature 2O16s . Especially since lots of my favorite domaines will be discussed such as MILLOT, ARNOUX-LACHAUX and Comte Ligher Belair. Within 2 weeks I will be visiting the newly discovered domaine Julien myself (thanks to Steens recommendations) to find out whether i found myself a new domaine producing the much underrated Nuits-St-Georges aux Saint Julien . This following almost 25 years of buying the same wine from the now retiring Daniel Bocquenet at domaine Bocquenet who produced a great version of it.

I’m pretty sure you will like the wines from Étienne Julien. As you mention this is really a lovelye village terroir … actually planning an article about this wine.
Cheers
