Charles Van Canneyt has upped his game in recent years, from small steps to big leaps forward in 2023 and now even in 2024 …
I therefore had a great feeling when visiting Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat to taste the 2024 vintage – a feeling of energy and stronger vin d’émotion presence in the wines presented, even in this difficult year.
Domaine des Chézeaux
Charles Van Canneyt has expanded his personal holdings with holdings from the Mercier Estate in Gevrey-Chambertin – an owner of both fine Gevrey vineyards and other spectacular plots in Chambolle and Morey.
Taking over vineyards that were rented out – as the Mercier vineyards were for decades – is a time-consuming process and will take sustained effort. The vineyards are, however, great and exciting. Historic changes are occurring!
All the vineyards have now been included in the new Domaine
Chezeau. Griotte Chambertin, Le Chambertin, Clos Saint Denis, Gevrey-Chambertin Cazetier and Gevrey village Clos de Chateau. Finally also the delicate Chambolle Charmes.

But somehow, the 2023s and the 2024s are giant leaps forward in quality. The phenolics in 2023 are very well-judged in general, though some wines really shine. And the 2024s are defying the vintage with some beautiful wines. Let’s get to it.
The 2024s at Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat – tasted November 19th 2025
The 2023 and 2024 vintages are two in my mind, a big step forward for Hudelot-Noëllat and Charles Van Canneyt. The phenolic ripeness is very well-gauged … and in general, the extraction is very suitable … a beautiful vintage …
Add to this that Cavin is a perfect fit for 2024 as the slight sweet tinge of the Cavin barrels does work very well with the low ripeness of the 2024 vintage.
To the notes and grades …
