2024 is in many ways an unusual vintage. It was humid, low yields and several more challenges on the way to the bottle. The main challenges were issues with the flowering, and then, devastating mildew … the worst ever according to experienced vignerons.
The production was down to 70% and while some respectable wines were made … it is a very limited production … causing a special tasting session where all the journalists and the important importers were gathered in one day.
A special tasting … and a very nice gathering, where all (almost all) the journalists had the chance to have a chat, a gougère and a glass of Champagne – or a Bérêche treat, as I like to call it.
And so, to the notes! – Wines tasted November 9th 2025 at the Domaine – from tank.
Impressions from the day
The vintage at Mugneret-Gibourg
The wines at Mugneret-Gibourg are showing well despite the character of the vintage. The 2024s have an inherent risk of being somewhat on the austere side if the oak and the extraction are taken too far. Mugneret-Gibourg have a slightly dark style, but they managed perfectly and avoided any austerity or tannic issues.
The sisters have maintained a joyful element in the wines … nice drinkability, although they will require some cellaring to unfold fully. These are wines with a 10 to 15-year lifespan, as the limited density sets its limits!
The 2024s at Domaine Mugneret-Gibourg
The wines were tasted on November 13th from cask.
Domaine Mugneret-Gibourg Vosne-Romanée 2024
The Vosne Village is quite intense for the vintage, filling the oak framework beautifully. Has a fine fruit with a clear Vosne spiciness and floral elements. A nice Vosne Village … well done given the conditions.
