My list of emotional winegrowers is now a year old, and while the work in the last areas (Beaune, Savigny-les-Beaune, and the Hautes Côtes de Beaune and Nuits) is still lacking its finishing touches, I do feel the need to promote an estate to the second-highest level in Gevrey-Chambertin alongside Rousseau, Mortet and Trapet.
Domaine Duroché
Pierre Duroché has the vineyards and the talent, and his cuvée creativity in the difficult 2021 vintage is stunningly good. I have often felt thrills, the occasional goosebumps, and cheerful enjoyment when tasting Pierre’s wines.
They have the energy and the seductive note that leaves you craving another glass, another bottle.
These are wines you want to have on the table when your friends visit on a late summer evening, or when you feel the urge to treat yourself.
