The 2024 does at best offer quite nice grapes but ripeness levels are on the modest side … and quite some will be on the unripe side.

The Corton picked yesterday had a good ripeness and will end up being bottled with around 12,5% thus giving the phenolics a chance to blossom in the glass.

… is always a beautiful harvest at this Corton vineyard.

Volnay & Pommard

There was extensive harvesting in Volnay and Pommard with several of my favorite estates picking.

Thibault Clerget was harvesting his monopole Volnay 1er Cru Clos du Verseuil also a usual starting point for this estate. Always a beautiful ripe vineyard – even in 2024.

The rest of Volnay was brimming with harvesters … plenty of picking activity in both Volnay and Pommard on this beautiful day.

Harvest is now fully on its way!

Expected progress

It is expected that big players like Marchand Tawse will start tomorrow (Thursday, September 12th) and the main estates of Nuits-Saint-Georges and Vosne-Romanée will enter the scene on Monday, September 16th … or even Sunday if the weather is optimal.

Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair, Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüe and Domaine Prieuré Roch are amongst the ones that start at the beginning of next week.

Further on some of the leading white producers in Meursault: They will presumably start the picking of the whites in the last part of next week … Thursday … hoping for signs of ripeness. It will be a struggle with the current alcohol readings … in some places, they will need miracles and a very good dose of sugar!

The whites will be a struggle and battle with low ripeness!!
