Finally, I had the opportunity to visit Céline Fontaine-Gagnard, the talented vigneron at Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard.
Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard was founded by Laurence Gagnard – the daughter of Jacques and Marie-Josèphe Gagnard – and her husband Richard Fontaine in 1985.
Today Céline Gagnard is running the estate … tuning in the refinement and delicacy of the wines. These are rapidly becoming a favourite of the Winehog … with lovely plots in Montrachet, Batard Montrachet, Bienvenue Batard-Montrachet and Criot-Batard- Montrachet … + brilliant plots in Cailleret and …

The style has been refined to adapt to the effects of global warming and now seems to have an ideal blend of old-school Chassagne (Ramonet) with a modern, refined touch to cheer the palate with a feminine touch.
2024 is a great opportunity to visit Fontaine Gagnard … elegant and refined, the style of the wines is fabulous without the slight hint of slightly excessive richness found in some more velvety years. The 2024s are delightfully elegant … wow, they are good – as they are very faithful to the display of the individual terroirs.
Starting out with the reds … in a classic white Domaine in 2024 could be a bit of a challenge … but Céline has made some lovely interesting reds …
Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet rouges 2024
The Chassagne village (rouges) – does set the scene. It is a beautiful balance of classic Chassagne style and a more modern take, which gives a pure and lively take on the 2024 vintage. Has a very nice and clean fruit … good deep midpalate fruit for the vintage.
(Drink From 2029) – Very Good – (88p)
Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard Volnay Clos des Chenes 2024
The Volnay Clos des Chenes 2024 is a sexy beast and all the Volnay you want in 2024. Lovely, silky and sensual fruit. Fine mineral notes … so refined and balanced … wow, I like this.
(Drink From 2028) – Very Good – (90-91p) – ![]()
Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard Pommard Rugiens 2024
The Pommard Rugiens Hauts is showing this lovely terroir in a very forward and fruity way. Rugiens Hauts is from relatively young wines … but shows very well … does, however, struggle with the Volnay for pure delicacy and seductiveness.
(Drink From 2032) – Fine – (91-92) – ![]()
But to be honest, I was waiting to taste the magnificent white 2024s
Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 2024
The Chassagne village is delicate and refined with a lovely phenolic ripeness. The 2024s do have a lovely low alcohol and almost perfect phenolic ripeness … in all the wines … This is freshly styled and classic!
(Drink From 2032) – Very Good – (90p) – ![]()
