The 1989 Chambertin Vieilles Vignes from Trapet is perfectly mature and simply delightful. The nose is very floral and expressive with a lovely fully mature red fruit, oriental spices … sous-bois, cherries, curry and violets. On the palate vibrant and juicy medium weight fruit. Not a big and weighty wine like the Dujac Bonnes Mares 89 it was tasted with … but a quite delicate and refined wine – especially considering the vintage. Really showing the greatness of the mighty Chambertin terroir. A treat to taste this mature Chambertin … this is why I love Burgundy – delicasy rather than power.
