In the North, in what I normally call the outskirts of Chablis, we find this interesting Bourgogne Èpineuil appelation. It’s an area with argillaceous soils (Kimméridgien) just north east of the core of the Chablis appellation.

This 2023 Bourgogne rouge from Dominique Gruhier has a lovely whole cluster influenced bouquet … nice intensity. Pure and clean fruit … red and dark red berries … elements of raspberries and a hint of cherries… slight notes of roses. A lovely wine with good depth and intensity. Nice and linear Chablis-like acidity … In my view, it works best served slightly chilled as it enhances the freshness and complexity. A lovely Vin de soif …the cool north has some fine perspectives.
