My visit to Domaine Jean-Luc Burguet (formerly Domaine Alain Burguet) in Gevrey Chambertin was one of the most positive tastings I had in 2024.
Jean-Luc Burguet is a delightful, thoughtful and first and foremost, cheerful vigneron who makes beautiful and hedonistic Pinots … just the way I like them …
The 2024s
Let’s face it though, even if 2024 is not the greatest vintage for red Burgundies, the vintage managed to produce some delicate and perfumed wines with a lovely flow across the palate.
Jean-Luc Burguet produced some elegant and light-footed 2024s … as the big guy (or goddess) upstairs intended them – at best, light, elegant and classic.
Jean-Luc just found enough fruit and charm in the grapes to make wines that give you a lovely, coherent feel on the midpalate. Even the Bourgogne Rouge gives a lovely but light glass.
The bigger cuvées are, of course, more generous and holistic in the slightly fragile style – delicacy is mastered to perfection, creating some wonderful emotional wines. The Lavaux and Les Champeaux are very emotional wines, but the points are of course adjusted to the vintage, as is the expected drinking window. These are not wines expected to improve for 20 years. I would drink them within the first 5 – 10!
