When I started out with Winehog, it was with a base in the vineyards and the mapping of the terroirs.
So I took a start in the old classifications, to explore the terroirs, also to find the vineyards that might have lost some of their mojo, so to speak.
In 1855 when Lavalle made his classification of the Burgundy vineyards, only a few vineyards outside the “main” appellations were classified as Téte de Cuvée.

One of these vineyards is located in Fixin and is unknown to most Burgundy connaisseurs today … Fixin La Perriére, better known as Fixin Clos de la Perriére.
So in 2014 I did an article on Fixin Clos de la Perriére outlining the vineyard and a part of the history … see the original article here.
Time has passed … 10+ years …and the original article was almost forgotten. Now time has, however, come to visit the Joliet estate … so here we are once again, Fixin Clos de la Perriére.
Clos de la Perriére has with global warming, found a new relevance in Burgundy, as a new and lighter vinification brings the wine in line with current palates.

The location of Fixin La Perriére
Fixin La Perriére is located in the southern part of Fixin on the border to Brochon. The vineyard is 6.69 ha 2… but only 5.142 ha is planted with vines. The rest is used for the estate buildings, garden and park.
The Google map below show the location between Brochon and Fixin.

The estate is still owned by the Joliet family – currently under the management of Bénigne Joliet2.
The vineyard Fixin Clos de la Perriére
The vineyard was already known as Clos de la Perriére in 1855 when Lavalle made his book. In 1855 the area was mentioned as 5 ha – but only 3.70 ha was used as vineyard1.
Currently, the terroir area is quoted as 6.69 ha2 – thus expanded from the original vineyard and estate. The vineyard now includes two adjacent terroirs – En Suchot (0.17 ha) and Queue de Hareng (1.62 ha) the latter is located in the Brochon appellation2. Both terroirs are fully included in Clos de la Perriére – Queue de Hareng was included in 1979 – and at the same time promoted to 1er cru2.
The map below show the four parts of Clos de la Perriére – the original parts located north and south of the estate and the two additions En Suchots (the small plot in the top of the vineyard) and Queue de Hareng.

The wines of Clos de la Perriére today
The Joliet currently produce five wines from its own vineyard. Three reds are produced, firstly the young vines are bottled as Fixin Filiae, secondly, the Fixin 1er cru Clos de la Perriére and then the special cuvée made from the oldest wines, Clos de la Perriére Cuvée Camille.
They normally produce two white wines made from the Chardonnay plot planted in 1994/95. A Fixin Filiae Blanc and then a Fixin 1er cru Clos de la Perriére Blanc … in 2024 made as a blend of normal oak elevage and amphorae.
Tasting notes
At the tasting, we first tasted the 2024 vintage from different types of elevage … different oaks and amphorae.
Only one white was made in 2024 – the Fixin 1er cru Clos de la Perriére Blanc with elevage in both oak and clay amphorae. The assembled cuvée is, in my view, a true beauty with a lovely freshness and salinity … beautiful energy and depth. The amphoraes are really offering something special here. A truly beautiful wine. This is a fine to very fine wine
… could be a true treat.
The reds need more time, as the amphoraes need further time … will therefore leave a rating for later.
The 2023s are now in the bottle …
Domaine Joliet Fixin Filiae (village red) 2023
A rather openly knit Fixin … has this slightly brutish 2023 note. A quite powerful wine for this level … good acidity from the fine terroir … it has energy and depth rarely if ever found in this appellation.

Domaine Joliet Fixin 1er cru Clos de la Perriére 2023
This is a lovely wine with a beautiful mineral note and a very digest salinity. It is a big wine for the appellation with a very strong terroir imprint. It is held at a lovely level of extraction … beautiful glass to Poularde de Bresse or other poultry.
