Burgundy is all about planning and luck as the weather is unpredictable. In Côte de Nuits and Hautes Côte de Beaune, the rain was quite persistent on Wednesday hence making harvesting difficult and wet.

In Volnay the rain seemed lighter and it was possible to push on in the drizzle… it’s all about making the right decision and having luck and good fortune.

For the next few days the forecast is promising… but after the weekend (Monday and Tuesday) it seems more mixed with some rain and drizzle. Please note the temperatures are moderate which is a bit problematic if one is trying to catch some late-season ripeness.

It is pretty clear to harvest full steam ahead If you have started this week …

… but if you have decided to start the harvest Monday you would now consider starting earlier on Saturday or Sunday – if you can get your team ready for the weekend. You would then start out with dry grapes whereas starting Monday could be more gloomy.

This is just an example that shows the difficulties that the vignerons are facing… but remember the Weather forecast for Meursault could be different and lead to other considerations …
